The Reverend Mike Watt Signature Wattplower Mark II Root Beer Sparkle is a development of what was already the most painstakingly produced signature bass out there. Now boasting two pickups - a P-Blade bridge and Thumpbucker neck - the Wattplower produces a much wider variety of tones, from deeper to brighter. Built for the legendary bass player of The Minutemen, Firehose and The Stooges (as well as numerous collaborations and solo material) this bass is identical to the instrument used on stage by the artist himself.
The Wattplower Mk II is now available from Merchant City Music for fast delivery across the UK and Worldwide. We pride ourselves in holding the biggest selection of Reverend guitars this side of the Atlantic. Come and demo one for yourself in our Glasgow shop and see what all the hype is about!
Reverend Mike Watt Signature Wattplower Mark II in Root Beer Sparkle
The Mark 2 Reverend Wattplower Root Beer Sparkle is a 30" short scale bass guitar. Sculpted from Korina, the Wattplower is lightweight and incredibly well balanced. Luminlay side dots glow in the dark making it perfect for playing on a dark stage. The Hipshot A Style Brass bridge offers great intonation and loads of sustain. Hipshot have also been employed for the tuners with their Ultralites, helping to balance the bass and make fine tuning adjustments.
New for 2024, the Wattplower Mk 2 comes fitted with two pickups: a P-Blade bridge pickup and a Thumpbucker in the neck, controlled via a 3-position blade switch. The P-blade captures that classic P-bass character, but with increased volume, sustain, clarity, and extended low end response. The newly-added Thumpbucker neck pickup is built into a standard humbucker size, this pickup packs massive tone in a small package! Big lows, warm mids, and round highs – but with unusual clarity for such a thick sound. This transforms the Wattplower MkII into a truly versatile axe, allowing it to produce a much wider range of tones.
The 3-Piece Korina and Walnut neck has a medium oval profile and is fitted with a 12" radius Rosewood fretboard. The Anchor Inlay at the first fret is a tribute to Mike Watt's father, who was a sailor in the Navy. There is also a "Wattplower" inlay at the 17th fret.
