Music Man Majesty Emerald Sky with Flamed Maple Shield Detail

There’s a palpable sense of awe when you first approach the Majesty Emerald Sky. Surprisingly small, it nevertheless has an undeniable presence thanks to its provenance and immediately-evident build quality. Any hesitancy at first handling of this guitar quickly dissipates; the compact body shows itself to also be perfectly balanced at the point where the thru-neck joins the body, instilling complete confidence. The closest inspection rewards with delightful details, from the intricately installed inlays on the tight-grained ebony fretboard, to the reassuring clunk of the switches. Flawlessly-finished stainless steel frets imbue the guitar with a sense of longevity, as do the highest quality Schaller M6-IND locking tuners.

The John Petrucci floating tremolo is complemented by an additional 3-way switch (which flips between the twin DiMarzio pickups and discreet under-saddle piezo). Other controls comprise a standard three-way switch for the humbuckers themselves and three knobs. The first knob controls the magnetic pickup volume, with an additional push/push activated 20db boost thanks to custom Music Man active circuitry. The tone control also features push/push functionality, activating or deactivating the outer coils of both pickups. The final knob, operating the piezo volume, also allows you to switch between mono and stereo outputs.

The DiMarzio Rainmaker Neck and Dreamcatcher Bridge were developed specifically for John Petrucci of Dream Theater. John says the new Rainmaker and Dreamcatcher neck and bridge pickups are “the quintessential tone-monsters we’ve been working on together since our very first collaboration, and the end result is absolutely mind-blowing.
