The Iron Label Fanned Fret first appeared as a prototype at the 2015 NAMM show and is now going in to production for 2016 delivery. The Ibanez Iron Label RGIF7 features fanned frets. Fanned fret or multi scale instruments have been around for a while and they look a lot stranger than they feel. The theory behind them is simple. Giving the thicker strings a longer scale and the thinner strings a shorter scale for optimum string tension right across the fretboard. As soon as you pick up the Ibanez RGIF7-BKS it just feels right. You can barely notice the slant of the fanned frets as your hand naturally angles up and down the neck. It's an ergonomic design which makes playing very comfortable.

Mono-rail bridge, EMG pickups

The Ibanez RGIF7-BKS features an ingenious Mono-rail bridge. Effectively each string has its own individual bridge keeping each string completely isolated. This lets each string vibrate and ring out for the most sustain without interference from other strings. A pair of EMG 808X pickups are installed in the Ibanez RGIF7. These humbuckers provide all the clarity and output required for technical metal styles. They also sound great clean having a clear and crisp tone. The 808X is designed for regular scale 8 string guitars but have been employed here to work perfectly with the extended scale of the RGIF7.

An Ash body on the RGIF7 helps provide brighter, louder tonal characteristics and excellent sustain. It strengthens mid-range tone and tightens low end, making it ideal for reproducing the deeper range of down-tuned instruments. The Ibanez RGIF7 features a super-slim, ultra-comfortable 5-piece Maple/Bubinga Nitro Wizard neck. It provides solid stability for the increased tension of the extra strings. A spacious, Rosewood fingerboard enhances playing agility and optimizes articulation.
