This Special Run Left Handed Fender MIJ Traditional ‘60s Mustang is presented in Candy Apple Red with body colour matching headstock. It’s always an event when we get a new Fender Made In Japan (MIJ) model in stock here at Merchant City Music, but even more so when it’s a highly limited model such as this Lefty Mustang (as if left handed guitars weren’t rarified enough!). Fender’s Japanese-made Traditional ‘60s models are beautifully constructed and finished, exemplifying the look and feel of guitars made during this rich period in the company’s history.

Fender MIJ Traditional ‘60s Mustang Left Handed Special Run Candy Apple Red With Matching Headstock
For those in the know, Fender’s MIJ models are the Lexus to the Cadillac of the company’s US-made models: every bit as beautifully built, and an occasion in their own right. It feels particularly appropriate for a Mustang to be Made In Japan, given Japan’s special affinity with this model. Originally made as a cheaper guitar for American students, the Mustang was adopted by a new generation of Japanese rockers, who appreciated its combination of smaller physical size and full fat tone.
This Limited Edition Left Handed MIJ Mustang features a standout colour scheme, with the Candy Apple Red body colour also having been applied to the headstock. The dark Rosewood fretboard is an increasingly rare feature nowadays, while the 3-ply pearloid pick guard complements the body colour perfectly. Snarling tone is guaranteed by the twin Single-Coil Mustang pickups - controlled via two phase slider switches. A hard bone nut ensures that no tone is lost, directing all string vibrations into the neck, body and, ultimately, pickups.
The slightly fatter-than-standard “U”-shaped neck gives you something to really grip onto as you navigate the traditional 7.25” radius fretboard. Though the body is smaller than a Jaguar or Jazzmaster, this Mustang still feels chunky and substantial for the smaller player. The 24” scale length reduces the stretch between each of the 22 frets, meaning it stays comfortable to play, even if you have smaller hands.
With its unique colour scheme, top notch build quality and highly limited build numbers, we don’t anticipate this Left Handed Fender MIJ Traditional ‘60s Mustang sticking around for long!
